Silverfish in North Texas

Appearance:
- Teardrop-shaped body with silvery or gray scales providing a metallic appearance
- Two long antennae present
- Three long tail-like appendages at the rear
Habitat:
- Favor dark, damp locations like basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and attics
- Nocturnal and prefer to remain in hiding during the day
Diet:
- Scavengers consuming carbohydrates, sugars, starches, and proteins
- Feed on paper, glue, clothing, book bindings, and kitchen food items
Damage:
- Not harmful to humans but damage paper products and clothing through feeding
- Leave small holes and irregular feeding patterns on affected materials
