Earwigs in North Texas

Appearance:
- Possess slender, flattened bodies with distinctive forceps-like cerci (pincer-like appendages)
at the end of their abdomen - Measure 5 to 25 millimeters in length depending on species
- Typically brown or black in coloration
Habitat:
- Found in gardens, fields, forests, and urban areas
- Prefer dark and damp places, such as under rocks, logs, mulch, and debris
Diet:
- Are omnivores consuming decaying plant matter, insects, and small invertebrates
- Some species also eat fungi and algae
